Pregnancy Scanning Timing
Pregnancy Test Early
Cows need to scanned as early as possible for best results.
Scanning cows at 6 weeks after AI (artificial insemination) or Bulls out, gives an accurate result as to confirmation of service date.
Although it is possible to scan as early as 4 weeks post conception it is highly recommended especially for aging, to scan between 6 and 16 weeks for cows in average condition and before 12 weeks in higher condition scoring cows.
This will give you accurate dry off dates and detect empty cows as early as possible.
Cows with abnormalities such as cystic ovaries, pyometra or endometritis can be identified and treated, giving them a greater chance to conceive.
For conformation of pregnancy only, scanning any time from 6 weeks onwards is suitable, but the earlier the pregnancy test is done the sooner decisions can be made depending on farming practices.
